RON KEYES
Ron Keyes was an internationally recognized artist with a very obvious urge to share art with others, whether for relaxation, education, escape, or simply expressing love for nature. His teaching allowed for each of these to find their place.
Ron grew up near West Chester, Pennsylvania, a small town with a lot of art influence from many prominent contemporaries of the century. As a child, his folks owned an Inn, who later became judges, so Ron came to know many different kinds of people at an early age. He loved to work with all kinds of people and certainly got that opportunity in his chosen field of art. Ron realized that his biggest interests were art, salesmanship, and people. The local art enthusiasts convinced him to share his artistic talents by teaching part-time, while working as an advertising artist with a few agencies and a newspaper. Part-time teaching quickly became full-time because the people and the need were there. He began his teaching career in Levittown, Pennsylvania, moved on with schools in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, and a studio on Park Avenue in New York City. This studio, where he also taught, was located in the same building as the United Nations Children's School. This gave Ron the opportunity to meet and teach many notables and their clientele.
Ron’s painting style has always been free hand and never with a projector, as many contemporary artists do. He considered himself the ‘Artist for the People’—that is, his paintings have been realistic portrayals. Some of his students have commented that his paintings have a ‘down-home’ appeal; and people have come from significant out–of–town distances to take instruction from him.
